Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov says his country has no intention of attacking EU or NATO member states but warned of a decisive response to any aggression directed towards Moscow.

In a wide-ranging speech delivered at the UN General Assembly, Lavrov stated that threats against Russia from Western countries were becoming increasingly common.

He also condemned Israel’s actions, specifically regarding the treatment of Palestinians, while acknowledging the context of the recent Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.

At least 65,926 people have been reported killed by Israeli strikes, while Lavrov criticized Israeli aggression that threatens broader regional stability, highlighting the issue of air strikes on other Middle Eastern countries justified by the operations against Hamas.

Regarding Iran, Lavrov accused Western powers of sabotaging negotiations after a last-minute bid led by Russia and China to delay reimposing sanctions failed. Lavrov described these sanctions as illegal and set to come into force soon.

While discussing European tensions, Lavrov reiterated that Russia has no intentions of attacking NATO, instead criticizing ongoing provocations and threats from Western nations. He remarked: Any aggression against my country will be met with a decisive response.

Lavrov also addressed US-Russian relations and criticized the timing of some countries' recognition of a Palestinian state, suggesting it was motivated by the hope that there would be nothing left to recognize.
