At least three Palestinian women have been killed and eight more injured after missile debris hit a beauty salon in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says.

The PRCS reported that shrapnel struck the salon in the town of Beit Awwa, located near Hebron, in the southern West Bank.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa stated that fragments landed on a metal caravan used as a salon, alongside several other locations in the West Bank.

This tragic event occurred shortly after the Israeli military reported that Iran had fired missiles towards it, which it claimed to be working to intercept.

The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Mais Ghazi Masalmeh, 50-year-old Sahira Rizq Masalmeh, and 36-year-old Amal Sobhi Abdel Karim Matawa' Masalmeh.

The PRCS responded with at least five ambulances, swiftly arriving at the scene to tend to multiple casualties and injuries.

The bodies of the three deceased women were transported to a local hospital, along with others who sustained critical and moderate wounds.

Initially, the PRCS reported that four women had been killed before revising the figure to three.

Furthermore, the PRCS highlighted that their response crews encountered significant difficulties reaching the site due to closed iron gates, impacting their response time dramatically.

The BBC has reached out to the Israeli military for commentary on the incident.
