US President Donald Trump has said he is holding off a military attack on Iran planned for Tuesday at the request of Gulf states as serious negotiations are now taking place.
In a post on Truth Social, he stated he had been approached by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to refrain from military action.
Trump shared that he believes an acceptable deal will be made, specifically addressing the situation of nuclear arms, emphatically stating there would be NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!. Despite the optimistic tone, he warned that the US is ready to execute a full-scale assault on Iran at a moment's notice should negotiations not yield satisfactory results.
The Iranian military has responded by urging the US to avoid making strategic mistakes and miscalculations again.
This announcement comes against the backdrop of a significant drop in Trump's approval ratings, where a recent poll indicated that 64% of voters deem the decision to wage war against Iran as a misstep, while only 37% approve of his performance as president.
With ongoing military operations and a strategic stalemate, Gulf nations are concerned about potential Iranian retaliation should hostilities escalate further. Iran retains significant military capabilities that threaten regional stability, including drones and missiles aimed at neighboring states.
As of now, a ceasefire established in April is holding, allowing dialogue to proceed, despite lingering tensions and previous violent exchanges.
Furthermore, the US has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports to exert pressure on Tehran regarding negotiations, amidst claims by Iranian officials that Washington's concessions have been inadequate.
Trump's cancellation of the attack represents a complex balancing act between international diplomacy and military readiness amidst a highly volatile geopolitical landscape.
