Organic Carrots Recalled Amid E. Coli Outbreak in the US

A major recall of organic and baby carrots follows a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to the produce.

An ongoing E. coli outbreak has prompted the recall of organic and baby carrots sold nationwide, resulting in one death and hospitalizing 15 others across 18 states, according to the CDC. The implicated products, distributed by Grimmway Farms, were available at major grocery chains such as Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target, Walmart, and Wegmans. Customers are urged to discard recalled items or return them for a refund. The CDC has noted that while most of the affected individuals reside in New York, Minnesota, and Washington, the risk remains as some products may still be in consumers' homes. Symptoms of the dangerous O121 E. coli strain can occur within days of exposure, with severe cases requiring hospitalization. This outbreak follows another incident linked to slivered onions in McDonald's burgers, raising ongoing concerns about food safety in the US.
