A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening. A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he tried to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also stated that he was killed by a settler.

The Israeli military claimed he was shot by an off-duty soldier and accused him of throwing stones. Tayasir has been a focus of recent violence from settlers, with rising tensions in the region.

This latest killing comes at a sensitive time, with ex-security chiefs warning that government-sponsored Jewish terrorism is out of control in the West Bank, amid reports of the Israeli government's approval of dozens more settlements. Tayasir is under the supposed security control of the Palestinian Authority, yet incidents like this are becoming increasingly common.

Alaa's cousin, Saeb Subeih, described him as a respected and peaceful individual, emphasizing that he was just defending his property when he was 'executed' by the settlers. As criticism surged, the UN reported a sharp increase in settler violence against Palestinians, with a notable uptick in incidents recorded this year.

In response to recent events, Israeli officials have not acknowledged the concerns raised, suggesting a deeper issue regarding the militarized support for settlers and the ambiguous stance of the Israeli government towards escalating violence in the occupied territories.
