Russian Glide Bombs Strike Kramatorsk Buses, Killing 30

Russian forces used glide bombs to destroy two civilian buses in the eastern front‑line city of Kramatorsk, killing at least 30 people, including residents and commuters. The strike is part of an intensified wave of attacks that has seen the number of Ukrainian civilians killed this year surpass the total of 2025. Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin said all public transport in nearby cities was ordered to stop, citing the safety of civilians as paramount.

The move comes as Russian soldiers push deeper into the Donbas, a region whose industrial heartlands Ukraine’s allies say are vital for the country’s future. Zelensky warned that the strike would not go unpunished, calling on the international community to take "concrete action" and threatening to retaliate with precise strikes of their own. The United Kingdom announced fresh sanctions targeting Russia’s war machine, crypto and oil sectors after similar attacks on Kyiv’s infrastructure and the Kremlin’s failure to respond.

Graphic images posted by local prosecutors show a blazing bus shell, debris, and victims sprawled on the road, providing stark evidence of the brutality of the bombing campaign. Analysts note that glide bombs—able to skid silently toward their target—have been used repeatedly against towns such as Slovyansk, with at least nine launched in a single day during late August. The Kramatorsk city council has described the attack as a "horrific crime against the civilian population" and has called for urgent relief aid.

Ukraine’s leaders also contend that the current surge in Russian aggression threatens to erase the safety of entire communities. The Kremlin has yet to comment on this latest incident, but its pattern of targeting transport hubs illustrates a clear strategy: to incapacitate civilian life in contested areas. With the war now in a phase of relentless escalation, every newly injured or dead strengthens the call for a stronger international response and a possible shift toward more aggressive sanctions. For Ukraine, the stakes are higher than ever; losing more civilians not only amplifies grief but also fuels advocacy for decisive global action and intensified support for the nation's defense needs.
