Police Alleged Misconduct During Delhi Protest

Three female journalists have accused uniformed officers of touching them in ways that they described as sexual harassment while they were covering a protest outside the Jantar Mantar plaza in New Delhi. Their reports surfaced on Saturday after activists and netizens filmed police dragging protestors away from the site.

Delhi Police officials said the complaints were logged with the New Delhi District office and that an impartial inquiry would be carried out by the crime branch. The police statement was posted on social media to quell growing concerns.

The protest itself is part of a broader movement that is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Critics claim that last year’s Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls – which is meant to eliminate duplicates – has favoured the ruling party and has led to additional scrutiny of the election commission’s decisions.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi voiced the protesters’ safety concerns, urging the home ministry to take responsibility for the police conduct. The protest has gathered thousands of demonstrators in Delhi and Mumbai, who are calling for the removal of King‑maker Gyanesh Kumar from office.

Images from the scene show two police officers physically restraining a woman who appears to be shouting. A separate shot captures demonstrators scuffling with police boots near a metal barricade. The footage, shared on social platforms, has intensified the call for accountability.

The Election Commission maintains that the voter‑roll revisions are essential to maintaining an accurate electorate and that all decisions are made unanimously. Still, the growing discontent among opposition parties and activist groups has spurred a wider debate about transparency and policing in public demonstrations.
