Flydubai Attack Survivor, Indian Pilot, Turns Hero After Co‑pilot Assault

Indian Captain Smit Machchhar was attacked by a co‑pilot aboard an Israel-bound Flydubai flight, yet he fought back by opening the cockpit door to allow passengers to subdue the assailant. The pilot’s actions saved all 114 on board and earned him a hero’s status.

While recuperating in the hospital, Captain Machchhar received an emotional call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the pilot’s bravery and commitment to protecting the passengers.

The attack took place off the coast of the United Arab Emirates after the aircraft had departed from Dubai. The plane diverted safely to Saudi Arabia, where the incident was contained and no fatalities were reported.

Airlines and security experts are reassessing cockpit security protocols and examining crew mental health, underscoring the importance of maintaining strict safeguards in aviation environments.
