Escalating Conflict: Israel Targets Key Infrastructure in Southern Lebanon
Israeli air strikes have destroyed two bridges over the Litani River linking southern Lebanon with the rest of the country, per military reports.
This action follows warnings from the Israeli military regarding alleged crossings utilized by the Hezbollah armed group for the movement of fighters and weapons.
In addition, Israeli strikes have hit various locations in Beirut, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and 27 injuries, according to Lebanese authorities. This escalation extends Israeli military actions beyond the southern suburbs to central Beirut.
Since March 2, the Lebanese health ministry has reported nearly 1,000 casualties, including over 111 children.
The involvement of Lebanon in the ongoing US-Israel conflict against Iran was catalyzed when missiles were fired by Hezbollah into Israel, prompting a robust Israeli military response.

Israel's defense minister stated that the bridges were targeted as a direct action against Hezbollah's use of Lebanon's state infrastructure to advance terrorist activity, although Hezbollah has yet to issue a response.
Warnings to civilians in proximity to the Litani crossings have prompted evacuations amid mounting tensions.
Prior to Wednesday's strikes, the Zrarieh Bridge had already been damaged by Israeli military action.
The Litani River remains a critical component of Lebanon's precarious security situation, with armed groups prohibited from operating south of the river under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which was enacted after the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
In light of the most recent Israeli evacuations, the country faces an escalating humanitarian crisis, with over a million people displaced from their homes primarily in the southern and eastern regions, as well as in southern Beirut where Hezbollah's influence is predominant.
Nightly air strikes are reported to target other areas as well, including Zefta, where damage has escalated due to ongoing bombardments. An eyewitness described the sudden nature of the strikes, resulting in extensive civilian havoc.
Bystanders in the neighborhoods are increasingly agitated, associating the destruction directly with Israeli military policy rather than partisan issues.
