Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, an American-Kuwaiti journalist, has been acquitted by a Kuwaiti court following his detention last month, where he faced charges related to sharing videos and images concerning the US-Israeli war with Iran. His legal team, which includes the London-based barrister Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, announced the verdict, indicating that he was found innocent of spreading false information and other related charges.

Shihab-Eldin had been in Kuwait visiting family when he shared a verified video of a US F-15 fighter jet crash and images of an American pilot who ejected, actions which led to his arrest the next day on March 3rd. His international legal team expressed their relief at the verdict, stating they will ensure his safety and freedom following 52 days of detention.

The Committee to Protect Journalists welcomed the news but continued to stress that Ahmed's safety remains a priority. The Kuwaiti authorities have yet to make an official comment regarding the case, amid reports that hundreds have been detained for propagating information about the conflict involving Iran. This incident highlights ongoing concerns over press freedom in the region, as lawmakers and authorities emphasize the need to curb the dissemination of what they deem to be false or harmful information.
