Roof collapse at Peshawar school leaves 30+ dead
A school roof collapsed in Peshawar’s north‑western district on 15 Oct, after a sharp cracking sound was reportedly heard a few minutes earlier. Hospital officials now confirm more than 30 pupils and a teacher lost their lives and dozens of others suffered injuries, some in critical condition.
Rescue crews rushed to the scene, finding dozens of students trapped under rubble. The incident has sparked an urgent investigation into the building’s structural integrity and compliance with local codes.
According to BBC Urdu correspondent Azizullah Khan, the collapse triggered a nationwide debate over building safety and the adequacy of inspection regimes for educational facilities.
Emergency services are still working to extract survivors, with medical teams treating extensive injuries. Authorities urge parents and staff to co‑operate with rescue efforts and to report any signs of structural distress.
