DICKSON CITY, Pa. — Emergency crews battled a blaze and evacuated patients from Lehigh Valley Hospital on Wednesday night as fire engulfed a portion of the facility. Fortunately, all patients, staff, and visitors were safely evacuated, according to a spokesperson from the hospital. As of early Thursday morning, emergency responders continue to address the situation.

Governor Josh Shapiro took to the social media platform X to announce that state police, the emergency management agency, and the health department were responding to the fire. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you to every first responder running toward danger to help their fellow Pennsylvanians. Lori and I are praying for the staff, patients, their families, and the entire community tonight.”

Footage shared online revealed flames shooting from the roof of what appears to be the hospital's Orthopedic Institute. As the investigation is underway, officials have not yet identified the cause of the fire, which occurred about six miles north of Scranton.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr., representing the district encompassing Dickson City, also publicly acknowledged the efforts of first responders and hospital teams. He praised their quick and professional actions, which ensured the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the incident.}
