Explosions Heard in Addis Ababa After Drone Ban

Residents across Addis Ababa reported loud explosions overnight, with accounts from the southern suburb of Gotera and the western neighbourhood of Torhayloch, near the military headquarters.

The blasts came hours after the Ethiopian government imposed a ban on drone flights over the city, following the outbreak of fighting in the north a week earlier.

An opposition‑linked source told Reuters that the explosions were drone strikes. The claims remain unverified, and no official explanation has been released.

Government ministries, including the prime minister's office and the defence ministry, have yet to respond to requests for comment.

Details about the exact locations, damage, and casualties are still unclear, leaving the city in a state of heightened tension amid the ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia.
