In brief

Tehran, grappling with evacuation orders from Israel, faces increasing panic as airstrikes target military and nuclear sites within the city.

In recent developments, Israel has escalated its military efforts against Iran, unleashing airstrikes on Tehran, a city paralleling New York City in population density. With about 10 million residents within approximately 300 square miles, approximately one in ten Iranians resides in the capital and many more in the surrounding metropolitan area.Footage from Tehran showcases chaotic scenes, featuring extensive lines of vehicles at gas stations and heavy traffic as citizens scramble to evacuate. Panic surged on Monday evening when the Israeli military ordered residents to evacuate from a zone in District 3, predominantly a wealthy residential area housing several hundred thousand people. Subsequently, President Donald Trump amplified the urgency of the situation on Truth Social, advising the entire population of Tehran to evacuate "immediately."On Tuesday, marking the fifth day of hostilities, Israeli forces released another evacuation warning concerning parts of District 18, a neighborhood adjacent to the densely populated Mehrabad International Airport and known for its impoverished conditions. The Israeli military claims its target has been Iran’s military and energy infrastructure critical for its nuclear weapons program, confirming strikes in densely populated regions, including images of Tabriz and Mashhad, as well as in less populated areas like Natanz, which is home to Iran's main uranium enrichment facility. As the crisis unfolds, the fear among Tehran’s populace continues to escalate, exacerbated by warnings from foreign powers and the dire need for protective measures in the face of increasing military action.
