In brief

ADNOC Gas plc and TotalEnergies inked a five‑year agreement to deliver up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG, reinforcing ADNOC’s expanding global trading platform and TotalEnergies’ LNG portfolio. The deal will begin with first shipments in 2026 and is part of ADNOC’s push to reach 47 million tonnes per annum by 2030. Both firms highlight the partnership’s strategic value and confidence in delivery reliability.

Abu Dhabi – ADNOC Gas plc and its subsidiaries announced on Tuesday that they had signed a five‑year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with TotalEnergies for up to 1.6 million tonnes, with first deliveries slated for 2026.

The contract, which comes as TotalEnergies seeks to strengthen its LNG portfolio after a recently concluded partnership with an Abu Dhabi gas operator, creates a long‑term supply line between the UAE and the global LNG market. TotalEnergies said the agreement will help confirm its position as a main LNG supplier in Europe and Asia thanks to the project’s strategic location.

Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, noted the deal’s role in the company’s broader strategy: “Global demand for LNG continues to grow, and ADNOC Gas is well positioned to capture that opportunity. This agreement reflects the strength of our LNG business, the competitiveness of our supply offering and our ability to secure long‑term partnerships that support growth, enhance resilience and create lasting value for shareholders.”

Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, echoed the sentiment. “The signing of this agreement with ADNOC Gas marks another important milestone in our long‑standing partnership and highlights our commitment to deepening our cooperation for the long term,” he said. The partnership is seen as a key element for TotalEnergies as it expands its LNG business beyond existing contracts.

The deal is also tied to ADNOC’s newly launched global LNG marketing and trading platform, which unites the marketing activities of ADNOC Gas and XRG with the trading capabilities of ADNOC Trading. The platform aims to position ADNOC as a leading LNG marketing and trading organisation, targeting 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG beyond 2030. Experts from Oil & Gas Middle East and Business Wire have noted that the platform will bring greater flexibility and customer focus to ADNOC’s supply solutions.

According to the WAM report, ADNOC is also working toward future integration of the Ruwais LNG facility, an expansion that is expected to significantly boost its production capacity. Analysts point to this move as a strategic step to meet growing global demand and to reinforce ADNOC’s status as an international LNG supplier.

While the agreement details the quantity of 1.6 million tonnes, the exact delivery schedule beyond the first year has not been disclosed. Oil & Gas Middle East highlights that the first deliveries are anticipated no earlier than 2026, which aligns with the development timeline for the Al Habtoor LNG terminal in the UAE. The timing and logistics of these shipments remain a key point of interest for market participants.

Key questions emerging from the announcement include the impact on LNG pricing dynamics in the global market, the potential for incremental capacity from Ruwais in the future, and how the partnership will position TotalEnergies against other major LNG suppliers. Analysts who covered the deal have noted that the combination of ADNOC’s reliable logistics and TotalEnergies’ distribution network could create a competitive edge, yet some observers wonder how the agreement will fit into a broader competitive landscape where multiple gas operators are vying for supply contracts.

Business Wire emphasized that the agreement reflects a “mutual confidence” between the two companies, underscoring the strength of ADNOC’s LNG supply chain. Meanwhile, WAM highlighted that the agreement would reinforce TotalEnergies’ LNG portfolio, effectively cementing the UAE as a critical node in the Mediterranean‑Asia LNG corridor.

Overall, the five‑year contract marks a significant step for both companies: ADNOC Gas’s ambition to deepen its global trading presence and TotalEnergies’ aim to secure a steady supply of LNG as part of its long‑term strategy. The partnership, which will begin in 2026, is expected to drive confidence in the market and potentially influence future supply contracts and pricing structures.
