A 42-year-old Peruvian woman has been apprehended in Bali for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs estimated at $70,000 (£52,000), with the substance concealed within her personal belongings, including a sex toy. Identified solely by her initials N.S., she was intercepted by customs officials who noted her suspicious behavior upon arrival.

According to local authorities, the drugs were cleverly hidden in six plastic packages, wrapped in black duct tape and nestled inside a green bra. Equally, three additional packages were found within her black underwear, while a sex toy was reported to have contained narcotics embedded internally. Radiant, the director of Bali's narcotics unit, provided details to the media regarding the significant seizure, which amounted to 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills.

The woman disclosed that she was offered a payment of $19,000 for her role in this trafficking operation, which she reportedly accepted from an individual she encountered on the dark web back in April. After her departure from Barcelona, Spain, she arrived in Bali via Doha on August 12. Law enforcement apprehended her shortly after customs officials raised alarms about her unusual conduct.

Indonesia is notorious for its stringent regulations concerning drug offenses, often resulting in severe consequences for violators. Although the nation has enacted a moratorium on the death penalty since 2017, those convicted under its drug laws, such as the woman currently facing charges, could still confront capital punishment. Recently, an attempt to smuggle cocaine disguised as ordinary consumer products by three British nationals was also met with legal consequences, yet they narrowly avoided death sentences.
