Unidentified drones have been observed hovering over a military base used by NATO in the Netherlands, according to the Dutch defense ministry.
Military personnel deployed weapons to try to take down the drones spotted near Volkel Air Base, north of Eindhoven, between 19:00 and 21:00 local time (18:00-20:00 GMT) on Friday.
The defense ministry stated that the devices departed and were never recovered.
The Netherlands is among several northern European nations that have faced drone sightings around military installations and airfields in recent months. Russia has denied accusations linked to previous incidents.
Dutch police are investigating the matter but have not disclosed further details for security reasons.
As a base for the Royal Netherlands Air Force and a host for a US Air Force squadron, Volkel Air Base serves critical NATO operations.
This incident follows reports of similar drone sightings at other Dutch air bases, as well as military facilities in Belgium, Denmark, and Germany.
These sightings have disrupted air traffic and raised security concerns, with investigations hampered by a lack of evidence regarding the drones' origins.
Some officials have attributed these incidents to hybrid warfare by Russia, targeting nations allied with Ukraine, although the Kremlin dismisses these claims.
In response, defense ministers from ten EU countries have agreed to establish a drone wall while individual nations seek to enhance their counter-drone capabilities.
