Ukraine Hits Russian Military Plant in Cheboksary with FP-5 Missiles

President Zelensky announced that overnight Ukrainian forces launched FP‑5 Flamingo cruise missiles at a drone and missile plant in Cheboksary, Chevash Republic, more than 900km from the front line. Local authorities confirmed three injuries and reported damage to the facility, though the exact extent remains unclear.

The Crimea‑far strike represents a significant escalation, given that attacks deep inside Russia have been rare. The Verona‑sized plant supplies components for drones and missiles used by the Russian army, and a fire was reported at the site.

Supplementing the Cheboksary strike, Ukraine also claimed to have targeted the Moscow‑occupied port of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, a Russian oil refinery in Samara and a “shadow fleet” oil tanker in the Black Sea. These additional blows highlight a concerted effort to disrupt Russia’s logistics and fuel supplies.

Russian defence forces said their air‑defence units intercepted 326 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Ukrainian air‑forces reported downing 181 of 207 Russian‑fired drones. The conflict has seen a rise in drone and missile exchanges, with a growing number of Ukrainian strikes hitting strategic facilities across Russia.

Zelensky’s post also mentioned a video allegedly showing a missile flying toward its target and smoke plumes from the facility, further underscoring the crisis’s real‑time nature. Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed any potential talks with Kyiv, insisting on the continued expansion of Russian forces along the front.

As the war drags on, Ukrainian forces continue to advance their long‑range missile programs, aiming to inflict maximum cost and pressure on Moscow. The latest deep‑strike attack may trigger a new wave of confrontation and prompt a reassessment of Russia’s wartime strategy.
