Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the United States aims to bring the ongoing conflict with Russia to a close by June, revealing plans for peace talks hosted in the US.

America proposed for the first time that the two negotiating teams – Ukraine and Russia – meet in the United States of America, probably in Miami, in a week. We confirmed our participation, Zelensky shared.

While there has been no immediate response from Washington or Moscow, President Donald Trump has been advocating for an end to the conflict since reassuming office over a year ago.

In the interim, Russia's military has escalated attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, resulting in further blackouts during the freezing winter months.

During a recent press briefing, Zelensky discussed the recent US-brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi, which concluded without significant progress. Difficult issues remain difficult, he emphasized, especially with respect to territorial concessions that Ukraine is being pressured to consider.

Continuing, he confirmed discussions about the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving leaders, not just representatives, but acknowledged that adequate preparatory measures are essential.

In his remarks about the June deadline, Zelensky noted, The Americans say that they want to do everything by June. Why before this summer? He indicated that domestic issues within the US could influence the timeline.

Meanwhile, Russian forces persist in targeting Ukraine's energy systems, causing widespread outages. Ukraine's energy minister, Denys Shmyhal, reported a substantial increase in the power deficit attributed to the latest wave of strikes, flooding emergency services with requests for assistance.

As the war continues, the humanitarian impact becomes increasingly dire, with many Ukrainian residents seeking refuge in metro stations to escape the freezing conditions exacerbated by power outages.

Efforts towards negotiations remain fraught, as both sides face internal and external pressures amidst a backdrop of ongoing military actions.
