After a torrent of rain battered central Texas, at least one person has died in floods that touch the same rivers that swallowed 130 people—including 25 children—during the 2025 Camp Mystic disaster.
The destruction came as the Guadalupe River, which powers the region’s economy, surges after nonstop rain, creating a severe threat for residents of Uvalde, Kerr and Kendall counties.
Early Thursday morning, emergency officials urged residents to evacuate. Governor Greg Abbott posted on X that a person was killed, not a camper, and said he would do everything possible to save lives.
Officials confirmed more than 80 rescues have been made, yet the river is still rising. The National Weather Service in San Antonio has repeatedly warned that the August‑season storm will continue.
The same stretch of the river that saw a horrific June 2025 flood—where the river rose 26 feet in 45 minutes—continues to pose a threat for those who live near its banks.
Camp Mystic has not reopened this year and filed for bankruptcy after the 2025 tragedy.
