In a statement released this morning, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed reports that authorities had offered United States President Donald Trump’s administration aid after a lab technician died at a high‑level plague research centre in Siberia.

The Kremlin said the technician’s death had been ruled pneumonia of unknown origin, according to the Russian public‑health watchdog. Peskov urged citizens to rely solely on that statement and to ‘not listen to various rumours.’ He also insisted that any official communications on the matter would come from state media and the health authorities.

In a brief interview, BBC Russia editor Steve Rosenberg asked Peskov how the Russian government viewed Trump’s offer of support. Peskov responded that the Kremlin team would not accept the help, stressing that the lab’s protocols met international safety standards and that ‘all personnel were protected.’

The incident follows a previous BBC report that the U.S. was ‘watching closely’ after the technician’s death. For a full read of that story, visit BBC’s coverage of the plague researcher’s death.
