A machete-wielding suspect randomly attacked three people at New York City's Grand Central Station before he was fatally shot by police, in a rampage that disrupted train services at the nation's busiest rail hub. The 44-year-old assailant, Anthony Griffin, slashed an 84-year-old man and a 65-year-old man on the head and face, along with a 70-year-old woman who sustained cuts on her shoulder, during the subway platform attack. Griffin reportedly ignored repeated commands to drop his weapon, insisting on identifying himself as 'Lucifer'. Authorities stated that they do not suspect any terrorism ties to the incident. Mayor Zohran Mamdani commended the swift actions of law enforcement and announced that body camera footage of the event would be made public. The attack unfolded when Griffin entered the subway at Vernon Boulevard–Jackson Avenue, boarding the 7 train bound for Grand Central-42 Street station where he initiated the assaults. Police arrived shortly and upon confrontation, Griffin advanced towards them with the machete, prompting officers to use lethal force after he refused to comply. All three victims were promptly transported to the hospital where their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
