In brief
Fu Zai, renowned as China’s inaugural police corgi, is not your average canine officer. With an endearing appearance and an impressive nose for trouble, he’s captured the attention of 400,000 followers on social media since embarking on his sniffer dog duties last fall. Discovered by a dog trainer during a park outing, Fu Zai quickly made his way to the Weifeng Public Security Bureau in Shandong province.
This four-legged officer has demonstrated outstanding performance proven by his delightful enthusiasm for treats. However, his love for food has also posed significant challenges, particularly for his trainer who struggles to maintain Fu Zai's focus. Recently, the corgi made headlines after a rather entertaining incident where he seized a sausage from a child during a routine street patrol. Despite efforts to help him resist tasty distractions, public sentiment largely favors Fu Zai, with many supporters offering him free snacks for his next patrol. In yet another amusing incident, Fu Zai found himself in hot water when his toys were confiscated after he dozed off during work, blissfully using his dog bowl for unintended purposes. Dog behavior experts explain that such characteristics are commonplace in corgis, noting their propensity for distraction and prey-drive instincts. “Corgis can be challenging due to their curious nature,” claimed Leonardo Palacio from Real Focus K9 dog training school. As Fu Zai showcases both charisma and undeniable quirks, it’s clear he’s becoming a beloved figure within the force and among dog lovers everywhere.
