Central Nepal Floods Flatten Homes, Bridges and Hydropower Site
A sudden flash flood has swept away a network of homes and bridges, and damaged a hydropower project, after a landslide upstream of the Budhi Gandaki River in the Gorkha district.
The Nepal Army reported rescuing 49 people from the disaster‑hit areas on Sunday. The district’s senior official confirmed that five people remain missing.
Nine bridges and almost two dozen houses were carried downstream, while the camp of a hydropower development along the river suffered significant damage.
This flooding follows earlier catastrophic rainfall that struck border towns with Tibet two months ago, destroying thousands of houses, crippling energy infrastructure and leaving many dead or unaccounted for.
