Céline Dion has announced her return to the stage, four years after she was diagnosed with an incurable condition that affected her singing voice and her ability to walk.

The star, known for power ballads like My Heart Will Go On and Because You Loved Me, will play a 10-night residency at the 40,000-capacity Paris La Défense Arena in September and October.

The announcement came on the day of her 58th birthday. In a message on her Instagram page, Dion called her comeback the best gift of my life.

I'm so ready to do this, she told fans. I'm feeling good, I'm strong, I'm feeling excited, obviously, [and] of course, a little nervous.

Addressing her medical condition, Dion said: I'm doing great, managing my health, feeling good. I'm singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing. She expressed her gratitude for the support she received from her fans throughout her health struggles.

High demand for tickets

Dion, who is one of the best-selling artists of all time, has not performed live since a show in Newark, New Jersey on March 8, 2020. Her Courage tour was cut short by the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, and she was later diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, forcing her to cancel all future shows.

For her live return, all the concert dates are separated by several days to avoid undue strain on her physical health. Tickets go on sale from April 7, and demand is expected to be astronomical. Fans can register interest on her official website from March 31.

Plans for the comeback were initially leaked by the French-Canadian newspaper La Presse last week, and shortly afterwards, posters featuring Dion's lyrics appeared around the French capital. The Eiffel Tower was even illuminated with a message celebrating her return.

Difficulty walking

Dion announced she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in December 2022. This neurological disease affects movement and can result in debilitating muscle spasms. In her own words, Dion described the profound effect of this condition on her life, stating it has affected every aspect of my daily life.

Despite these challenges, Dion was determined not to let SPS rule her life. In 2024, she expressed her commitment to intensive training and rehabilitation to combat the disease, undergoing vocal therapy five days a week. Her return to perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics marked a significant triumph in her battle with the illness.
