At least 16 people have been killed in a bus crash in eastern Egypt, the country's health ministry said.
A bus traveling between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate exploded on a Wednesday morning, killing 16 and wounding 28, according to local authorities.
The ministry said as many as 20 ambulances rushed to the scene to provide first aid and evacuate the injured. The exact cause of the crash remains undetermined.
Dahab and Nuweiba, popular with tourists from around the world, are often linked to frequent road accidents in Egypt—a country that recorded nearly 6,000 road‑killings in 2025 alone.
Fatal road incidents are commonly blamed on reckless driving and inadequate road maintenance. Earlier this year, two lorries collided in Ismailia, killing 18 people and injuring 30.
