In brief

A small aircraft crashed onto a busy road in São Paulo, Brazil, causing two fatalities while several others were left injured.

A tragic event unfolded on Friday morning when a small plane crashed into a major road in São Paulo's Barra Funda neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of both individuals on board and injuries to several bystanders. The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. local time, according to a statement from the city's fire department. In total, six people sustained minor injuries linked to the crash, including a motorcyclist and five passengers who were on a bus directly struck by debris from the plane. Captain Ronaldo Melo, a fire department spokesman, confirmed these details, stating that none of the injuries were serious. Fortunately, all passengers on the bus managed to escape before flames engulfed the vehicle.Firefighters arrived at the chaotic scene shortly after the crash, only to find both the small aircraft and the bus ablaze. Captain Melo described the inferno as "very aggressive" as teams worked to contain the fire. Eye-witness videos shared on social media depicted the aftermath, highlighting the wreckage and a large plume of black smoke billowing into the sky. While the exact cause of the crash remains unclear, initial reports suggest that the plane may have lost altitude shortly after takeoff from Campo de Marte Airport, bound for Porto Alegre, located approximately 700 miles to the south. By late morning, the fire department had successfully extinguished the blaze and cleared the area. This unfortunate event adds to the concerns around aviation safety in urban environments, as investigations into the precise circumstances surrounding the crash are set to unfold.
