A deadly fire in a southern Seoul apartment building has left one dead and multiple injured, prompting a police search for the suspected arsonist.
A tragic apartment fire in a 21-story building in the Bongcheon district of southern Seoul on Monday has resulted in one death and several injuries. According to reports from South Korean police, they are on the lookout for a male suspect in his 60s who witnesses claim ignited the blaze using a pesticide sprayer filled with a highly flammable liquid.
The fire broke out at around 8:17 a.m., rapidly consuming much of the fourth floor and creating a scene of panic as thick smoke billowed outwards. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the flames in about an hour. Amidst the chaos, one male resident was discovered deceased with severe burns attributed to the fire.
Additionally, two elderly women, aged in their 70s and 80s, sustained serious injuries after they were forced to jump from the building to escape the inferno. Many of the other injured individuals experienced symptoms related to smoke inhalation, such as breathing difficulties.
As the local police in Gwanak borough continue their search for the arson suspect, the community mourns this tragic event, and residents express their fears and concerns regarding safety in their homes.
