In a shocking turn of events, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was the victim of a knife attack at his residence in Mumbai, prompting swift action from local police who have detained a suspect linked to the incident. Khan, who is now recovering after surgery, was attacked during a scuffle early Thursday morning.
Reports indicate that the incident, which may have stemmed from a theft attempt, occurred when an unidentified intruder confronted Khan inside his home located in the upscale Bandra neighborhood. Police have seized CCTV footage from the actor's property and are analyzing it to gather more details about the case.
According to a statement provided to the police by Eliyama Philip, a nurse employed at Khan's residence, the night took a dangerous turn when she noticed a shadowy figure near the bathroom door. Philip recounted that the man was armed with both a wooden object and a knife. He threatened her and the child's nanny, demanding a hefty sum of 10 million rupees (approximately $115,477). A struggle ensued, during which Philip sustained injuries, and the nanny managed to escape.
When Khan and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, heard the commotion, they rushed in to confront the attacker, who subsequently stabbed Khan multiple times, including a serious wound to his neck, before fleeing the scene.
Hospitalized at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, Khan underwent surgery to remove a knife fragment embedded in his spine and to address significant hemorrhaging. Dr. Nitin Dange, who is overseeing his treatment, revealed that the timely medical intervention was crucial in averting severe spinal damage. Encouraging news followed, with Dr. Dange confirming that Khan is now stable enough to leave intensive care, although he will require extensive rest and restrictions on movement for the coming week.
Mumbai police have reported that further investigations are underway, focusing on the circumstances of the attack and how the intruder accessed Khan's residence using a fire escape ladder. The primary weapon used during the attack has still not been located.
