Teen Aviator Released After Antarctic Landing Incident
19-year-old Ethan Guo, who aspired to fly solo to all seven continents, faces legal proceedings in Chile.
Ethan Guo, the 19-year-old pilot and digital influencer, recently made headlines after landing in Antarctica during his quest to be the first to fly solo to all seven continents. Chilean authorities detained Guo after determining he had landed on King George Island without proper authorization. However, he has since been released from custody and is currently residing at a Chilean base while awaiting the resolution of legal proceedings against him.
Guo, with a significant following of over 329,000 on TikTok and 1.3 million on Instagram, set off from Punta Arenas, Chile, with the intention of returning to the city. His mission also includes a philanthropic angle, aiming to raise $1 million for cancer research. The flight to Antarctica was the final leg of his adventurous project, which started last summer when he received his pilot's license at age 17.
Chilean prosecutors reported that although Guo's flight plan was intended to be a round trip, the unplanned landing has brought him into a complex legal situation. He is now permitted to remain in Chile while his case is reviewed, highlighting the challenges faced by adventurous young explorers navigating international airspace regulations.
