British Man Charged Following Shocking Liverpool Parade Crash
A 53-year-old man faces multiple charges after a vehicle collided with a crowd in Liverpool, injuring nearly 80 during a soccer celebration.
On Thursday, officials confirmed that Paul Doyle, 53, has been charged with seven offenses, including dangerous driving, after a vehicle drove into a crowd celebrating Liverpool F.C.’s Premier League win earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on Monday, resulted in injuries to almost 80 individuals. Doyle was apprehended at the crash site and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, Jenny Sims, the assistant chief constable of Merseyside Police, detailed the severity of the charges against Doyle which include two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent — a designation reserved for serious injuries — alongside an attempted grievous bodily harm charge. Additionally, he faces accusations of “unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.”
Sims expressed the collective shock and sorrow of the Liverpool community, acknowledging the public’s concerns and highlighting the ongoing investigation. “Our detectives are working tirelessly with diligence and professionalism to seek answers to all of those questions,” she stated.
Sarah Hammond, the regional chief prosecutor, added that charges may evolve as the investigation progresses, suggesting that further offenses could be introduced or existing charges could be revised.
