More Allegations Surface Against Convicted Rapist Zou Zhenhao
23 additional women report assaults by the serial rapist, increasing the reach of the ongoing investigation.
More than 20 women have recently come forward to share their experiences of assault at the hands of Zou Zhenhao, a 28-year-old former Ph.D. student who was convicted last month in London of drugging and raping 10 women in both the UK and China. The Metropolitan Police reported that 23 women, some residing in Britain and others in various locations worldwide, contacted them following Zou's conviction, raising alarm over his potential involvement in multiple other assaults.
Investigators suspect that Zou may have attacked over 50 women, as demonstrated by the availability of hundreds of videos found on his devices during the investigation. He met many of his victims through dating apps such as Bumble and platforms like WeChat and Little Red Book. Police confirmed that his targets predominantly included Chinese students living in London, whom he often encountered at gatherings and parties.
On March 5, a jury found Zou guilty of 11 counts of rape, in addition to charges relating to drug possession, voyeurism, and extreme pornography. During his trial, two women gave testimony, while eight others have remained unidentified; authorities believe that drugging may have contributed to some victims being unaware of the assaults they suffered. In light of these developments, police have launched a public appeal to encourage additional victims to come forward for support and justice.
