Severe Disruptions for Eurostar Passengers After Fatal Incidents and Cable Theft
Travelers on Eurostar routes face major delays and cancellations due to tragic incidents and theft affecting services.
In a statement, Eurostar urged travelers to reconsider their plans for Wednesday, highlighting the ongoing issues stemming from the deaths of two individuals on the railway track between Lille and Paris on Tuesday, which forced the line to close for much of the day. The disruption further escalated with the theft of approximately 600 meters of copper cables along the same line near Lille, prompting rerouting of trains and increasing travel times.
As a consequence, travelers on routes connecting London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam are experiencing last-minute cancellations and long delays. Affected passengers will be allowed to adjust their travel arrangements at no extra cost or can request a full refund.
"We're very sorry for the impact this is having on our customers," Eurostar expressed in its official statement, emphasizing efforts to collaborate with French authorities and infrastructure teams to ensure safe operations and restore normal services. Currently, only one track has reopened, permitting limited train services until repairs are expected to conclude around 16:00 BST. To assist passengers stuck on delayed trains, water is being distributed onboard, while station congestion remains high.
