In brief

Prince Andrew's ties to a Chinese citizen, identified only as H6, have emerged as a source of national security concern, following a ruling from a London immigration court that confirmed the individual’s ban from the U.K. on grounds of potential espionage.

In a significant legal decision announced on Thursday, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission upheld the exclusion of the 50-year-old man, deemed a “close confidant” of Prince Andrew, fearing his relationships could be exploited by foreign powers for political interference. The ruling detailed that H6 had established connections not only with Andrew but also with several notable British officials, along with affiliations to the Chinese Communist Party and organizations aimed at promoting Chinese interests abroad.H6's presence in the U.K. was initially due to his studies and subsequent establishment of a consultancy to facilitate British investments in China. Notably, he was an agent for Prince Andrew when the Duke of York served as a special envoy for trade and investment a decade earlier. Evidence of their working relationship was solidified in a letter from Andrew’s former senior adviser, Dominic Hampshire, in 2021, which empowered H6 to represent the Duke in business engagements. The case gained traction when security services confiscated H6's mobile phone and digital devices at the border in November 2021, uncovering communications that raised red flags among intelligence officials. The court's revelation of H6’s potential to manipulate relationships with prominent figures for foreign influence marks a troubling chapter in Prince Andrew's already controversial public life, casting yet another shadow on the royal family amidst ongoing scrutiny surrounding its members.
