In brief

Recent murals highlight the escalating rhetoric, with messages in Hebrew and Persian threatening Israel while showcasing Iran's unwavering support for Palestinian groups.

In the heart of Tehran, an array of striking murals has emerged, reflecting the intense strain between Iran and Israel, particularly in light of ongoing confrontations. These messages, prominently displayed on the façade of a government building in Palestine Square, are frequently updated to echo the shifting dynamics of the conflict. One prominent mural, unveiled in January, bore a grim notification to Israel: “Prepare your coffins,” depicted against a backdrop of missile launches. By April, the threatening imagery persisted with messages on the Star of David stating, “Die from this fear.” Most recently, a collage representing hostages currently held in Gaza by Hamas—which is actively supported by Iran—declared, “None of the hostages will be released.”The murals are curated by the Center for Islamic Propaganda, a government-controlled entity overseen by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This location has become a focal point for pro-government demonstrations, with supporters donning traditional checkered kaffiyehs and displaying flags of Palestine and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militia also backed by Iran. In a noteworthy gesture from 2021, a digital clock was installed in Palestine Square, counting down to a date which the Iranian regime proclaims will signal the demise of Israel. This ongoing display of defiance and threatening art encapsulates the broader narrative of hostility that permeates Iran’s public sentiment towards its adversary. As tensions continue to inflame in the region, these murals stand as stark representations of Iran's hardening stance against Israel, intertwining propaganda with grassroots expressions of political and militant support.
