Stanley, famous for its trendy drinkware, announced on Thursday that it is recalling all Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the U.S. since June 2016. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) highlighted concerns regarding the mugs' polypropylene lids, which can shrink when exposed to heat and torque. This defect can lead to the lids detaching, posing serious burn risks to users.

Retailing between $20 and $50, these mugs have been available across major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Dick's Sporting Goods, in several sizes from 12 to 20 ounces and numerous colors like black, white, and green. Stanley has received reports of 91 instances globally where lids detached during use, including 38 burn injuries in the U.S. Due to this issue, the company has emphasized its dedication to quality and has urged consumers to cease using the affected products and reach out for a free replacement lid.

Over the years, Stanley's popularity has surged, particularly driven by social media trends where influencers showcase the brand's tumblers, which differ from the recalled mugs. The hashtag #StanleyTumbler has gained momentum on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where these drinkware items are often treated as fashionable collectibles.

This recall serves as a timely reminder of consumer safety and the importance of addressing product hazards swiftly.
