A convicted German transgender right-wing extremist, Marla-Svenja Liebich, who has been on the run for months, has been arrested in the Czech Republic. Liebich was captured in the east of the country, around 100km (62 miles) from Prague, based on a European arrest warrant.
In August 2025, Liebich, previously known as Sven, failed to report to the Chemnitz prison where she was due to begin serving an 18-month sentence. Reports indicate she has affiliations with a neo-Nazi group named Blood and Honour.
In July 2023, she was sentenced by the Halle District Court to one year and six months in prison for extreme right incitement to hatred, defamation, and insult, but lost her appeal against the sentence.
The controversies surrounding Liebich's case intensified after her legal gender change to female in late 2024, which was based on Germany’s Self-Determination Act designed to promote transgender rights. Critics, including Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, allege that she may have abused this new law for her extremist agenda.
At the time of her arrest, reports described Liebich in men's clothing and exhibiting a shaved head. Despite making attempts to evade capture, she was taken into custody. German authorities plan to extradite her back to Germany for the unserved portion of her sentence.
