LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In a tragic incident, a UPS plane crash in Louisville, Kentucky, has resulted in the loss of 14 lives, including a grandfather alongside his young granddaughter. This somber event has impacted many families, as revealed by the identities released by the local coroner's office.
Mayor Craig Greenberg held a press conference expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating, Our city feels the full weight of this unimaginable tragedy. Behind every one of these names is a circle of family, friends, stories that will forever be unfinished.
The crash occurred eight days prior to the announcement, when the plane crashed during takeoff at UPS Worldport, the company's global aviation hub. The coroner's office confirmed they have completed the identification of victims and notified their loved ones, while the National Transportation Safety Board continues its investigation at the crash site.
Among the victims were three pilots: Capt. Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Capt. Dana Diamond. Eyewitness accounts describe dramatic footage of the aircraft crashing and resulting in a significant fireball.
One victim, John Spray, was killed while at work when the plane struck his place of employment, Grade A Auto Parts & Recycling. Tifany Torok, the mother of his child, reflected on the unexpected nature of his death. Similarly, the family of another victim, Louisnes Fedon, has spoken about the immense void left behind due to the sudden loss.
As the community grapples with the aftermath, Mayor Greenberg commended the efforts of the coroner’s office for their diligent work during this difficult time.
