WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) — A 24-year-old Mississippi man is facing serious charges after a rampage that resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including family members and a church pastor, across three locations on Friday night.

Daricka M. Moore was apprehended at a police roadblock near Cedarbluff just before midnight after extensive collaboration among local, state, and federal authorities.

Moore is currently being held without bail at the Clay County jail in West Point, with murder charges expected to lead to an initial court appearance on Monday. Clay County District Attorney Scott Colom has indicated a strong likelihood of pursuing the death penalty in this case.

At a press conference, Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott confirmed that Moore acted alone and that no other injuries were reported. Investigators continue to piece together evidence but have yet to determine what motivated Moore's actions.

Witnesses have described a shocking and bewildering tragedy, with many grappling with the idea of a family member committing such heinous acts. Sheriff Scott expressed deep empathy for the victims' families, stating, Whatever the reason is, we’re hoping that we’ll find out. The shootings originated at Moore's family mobile home, where he allegedly killed his father, 67-year-old Glenn Moore, and other relatives.

Moore then reportedly stole a vehicle and traveled to a relative's residence, where he tragically killed a 7-year-old girl and threatened other children. The violence continued as he traveled to a local church, where he killed the pastor, Rev. Barry Bradley, and his brother.

Almost five hours after the rampage began, Moore was caught and found to be in possession of firearms, raising concerns about where he acquired them. The investigation is ongoing, with autopsies being performed on the victims as the local community mourns the devastating loss.

District Attorney Colom emphasized the severity of the case, stating, Six people, one night, several different scenes, it’s about as bad as it gets. As the community reels from this tragedy, a deeper investigation into the reasons behind such violence remains critical.
