On November 15, 2025, a devastating blast occurred at the Nowgam police station in Indian-administered Kashmir, leading to the unfortunate death of nine people and injuring 32 others. The explosion is believed to have been caused by a stockpile of confiscated explosives that accidentally detonated while being handled.

The incident took place just days after a car bomb in Delhi resulted in multiple casualties, raising security concerns across the region. The explosives involved in the collision were retrieved from Faridabad in Haryana earlier in the week, with police stating they were set to undergo forensic examination at the time of the mishap.

According to Nalin Prabhat, the region's director general of police, the explosion was a very unfortunate accident that occurred around 23:20 local time (17:50 GMT). He emphasized that this was not a terrorist attack, urging against any speculation regarding the incident's cause.

The police station sustained extensive damage, affecting nearby structures and vehicles, which were left engulfed in flames and debris. Eyewitness accounts revealed that body parts were found scattered up to 200 meters from the explosion site due to the blast's intensity.

Among the deceased were primarily police officers as well as forensic staff and two crime scene photographers. Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor appointed by the Indian government, expressed his sorrow publicly, announcing an investigation to ascertain the reasons behind this tragic accident. He extended his condolences to the victim's families, wishing for a swift recovery for those injured.
