In brief
Three men and women arrested in connection with the arson that killed the English family have been released by Gardaí without charge. The victims were Philip and Kim English and their children Jayden (9) and Callum (12) who perished when their Birch Avenue home was set on fire earlier this month. A fourth suspect, a man in his 20s, remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities say the case remains under active inquiry and that the community mourns the loss of the four family members.
Three people arrested in connection with the Waterford arson that killed four members of the English family have been released without charge, Gardaí announced on Saturday.
The victims – Philip and Kim English and their children Jayden, nine, and Callum, 12 – died when their semi‑detached house on Birch Avenue, on the outskirts of Waterford, was set ablaze in early October. The fire left several surviving relatives and neighbours stunned as the blaze was reported to have started in the early hours.
Earlier this week, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were charged in relation to the arson. Gardaí had also detained a man in his 50s and two women in their 30s on Tuesday, but they were released on Saturday after a review of the evidence. The fourth suspect, a man in his 20s arrested on Thursday, remains in custody.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and that authorities are continuing to work with forensic experts to identify the motive behind the deadly attack. The community, meanwhile, has been left grieving the loss of four young lives and the destruction of a family home.
Flowers left outside the disrupted home in Waterford as a tribute to the four victims.
