Police in the Czech Republic have arrested the driver of a Formula 1-type racing car that has eluded law enforcement for years. Described as 'phantom,' the red car, decked out in Ferrari livery, was tracked to a property in Buk, after multiple sightings since 2019.

Recent footage captured the car on the D4 motorway, leading to police intervention. The 51-year-old driver was apprehended at home, where he initially resisted officers but was eventually taken into custody, still wearing his racing suit and helmet.

Videos from local media show him arguing with police about trespassing but he eventually complied with their requests. Once at the police station, he refused to answer questions.

A family member expressed outrage at the police's heavy-handed response, claiming disproportionate force was used to address a supposed traffic violation.

The police have long struggled to identify the driver. Although they questioned him in 2019 based on earlier sightings, his helmet obscured his identity. While the vehicle resembles a Ferrari Formula 1 car, it's actually a Dallara GP2/08, a car designed for the GP2 series, which is a precursor to Formula 1.

The driver now faces fines for operating the vehicle without proper lighting, indicators, or license plate, and his driving privileges could be suspended.
