LOS ANGELES (AP) — D4vd, a popular alt-pop singer originally from Houston, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the case of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Her body was discovered in a severely decomposed state in a Tesla registered in D4vd's name, attracting significant media coverage and public attention.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the arrest, marking the first time D4vd, legally known as David Burke, has been publicly identified as a suspect in the case. As investigators prepare to present evidence to prosecutors, D4vd's defense lawyers firmly assert his innocence and claim that there is no imminent criminal complaint filed against him.
In an email, his defense team stated, Let us be clear — the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death.”
Rivas was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, prior to the discovery of her body on September 8, a day after her 15th birthday. Authorities noted that her death is being investigated by a secret grand jury, and while this has been ongoing, the specifics of the investigation remain largely undisclosed.
Court filings revealed that the dismembered remains uncovered from the vehicle were also a significant revelation in the case, with the body parts found in separate bags.
D4vd gained fame within the Generation Z demographic, especially after the success of his single 'Romantic Homicide' which garnered extensive attention on TikTok. Following the incident, the singer has canceled upcoming shows, including performances in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and an European tour set to begin in Norway.
As the situation develops, the legal proceedings are set to continue, posing a growing challenge for the burgeoning artist who has quickly captured the music industry's attention.
