A Tennessee man, Dalton Eatherly, known for his controversial and racist videos on social media, was granted a preliminary bond of $1.25 million following a shooting incident at the Montgomery County Courthouse. On Wednesday, during an altercation at approximately 1:19 p.m., Eatherly allegedly brandished a firearm and shot another man multiple times. The victim was airlifted to a Nashville hospital for emergency surgery and is currently recovering.

Witnesses reported that several bystanders were present during the shooting, with surveillance footage capturing the chaotic event. According to police reports and the affidavit, Eatherly was in clear view of innocent parties, and there are indications he may have also injured himself during the incident.

At a recent arraignment, prosecutors urged that Eatherly be held without bond until a full hearing could be conducted. However, Judge H. Reid Poland III set a high bond due to the seriousness of the felonies and the presence of numerous civilians in the area at the time of the shooting.

Eatherly faces charges that include attempted murder, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment, in addition to using a firearm during a dangerous felony. He previously had encounters with law enforcement, with current pending charges related to harassment and theft of services. His defense attorney emphasized his commitment to representing clients across diverse backgrounds, particularly in light of the hate-filled communications they have received since this incident.

Eatherly's growing notoriety comes not only from his legal issues but also from his social media content that engages in the use of racial slurs and provocation of Black individuals. Police have not confirmed the race of the shooting victim, but a witness has described him as Black. Currently, Eatherly remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail, and future legal proceedings for his case are scheduled in the coming days.
