Police have detained a person in connection to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC news anchor Savannah Guthrie. The individual was detained during a traffic stop, and authorities are conducting a search at their residence in Rio Rico, south of Tucson, Arizona.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a court-authorized search is underway. Guthrie was abducted from her home near Tucson more than a week ago, prompting widespread appeals from her family for her safe return.

Authorities have not released specific details about the detainee. However, a woman identified as the mother-in-law of the detained person has spoken to media outlets, stating that he is innocent and accusing the police of invasive actions on her property.

The detention comes just hours after the FBI released video footage of a masked individual at Nancy Guthrie's doorstep on the night of her abduction. This person was armed and appeared to have tampered with the home’s surveillance system.

Guthrie’s family is deeply worried about her health; they have stated that she has significant medical needs and was without her medication at the time of her abduction. Savannah Guthrie has shared emotional pleas on social media, urging for assistance in locating her mother and highlighting her fragile health condition.

The FBI is actively offering a reward of $50,000 for any information that may lead to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. As the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that the new leads will facilitate a breakthrough in the case.
