Kyiv Warehouse Strike Forces Evacuations After 37 Killed

A Russian air‑strike on a weapons depot on the outskirts of Kyiv on 29 August 2026 left at least 37 civilians dead and forced the evacuation of nearly 400 residents.

Videos shared online captured the moment of a huge explosion and the clouds of smoke that followed, painting a stark picture of the destruction in the neighbourhood.

The depot stored munitions for the Ukrainian army, and its proximity to a residential area has prompted complaints over safety. An investigation into the “terrible negligence … on the part of those who stored explosives next to people” has begun, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Ukraine correspondent Dan Johnson reported the unfolding events, noting the urgency of clearing the area and preventing further casualties as officials work to assess damage and deliver aid to the displaced.
