Hayden Panettiere Dead After Drug Overdose, Autopsy Confirms

Actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in “Heroes” and “Nashville,” died last month in South Carolina after being found unresponsive at a residence.

An in‑person autopsy carried out by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office has ruled the cause of death an accidental overdose of fentanyl, Xanax, methocarbamol and several other prescription drugs. No physical trauma was identified that may have contributed to her demise.

Panettiere had previously spoken publicly about her struggles with substance abuse and postpartum depression, detailing her introduction to drugs at a red‑carpet event in her teens. She revealed that the “happy pill” she received for energy eventually spiraled into a dependence that she described as “something she could not live without.”

Emergency responders initiated advanced cardiac life support measures when they arrived at the South Carolina home, but resuscitation efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is reportedly assisting local investigators in the case.

Panettiere’s former boyfriend and his brother, who were present during the emergency call, are mentioned in police reports. The actress’s memoir, published just months before her death, delved deeply into her battle with addiction and the toll it took on her mental health.

Her passing serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis affecting millions across the United States, a phenomenon that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in recent years.
