Eurostar passengers are braced for more possible disruption, after a power outage in the Channel Tunnel caused travel chaos for thousands of people on New Year's Eve.
As people scrambled to get to celebrations, numerous travellers reported being stranded onboard trains for over six hours. One passenger, who boarded the 19:01 service to Paris, remained stuck at the tunnel entrance until 03:00 GMT, unsure of whether he would be rerouted to London or continue to Paris.
Eurostar expressed intentions to resume all services, yet warned of lingering delays and cancellations. The morning of January 1st saw the cancellation of the 06:00 GMT service from London to Paris.
The issues stemmed from a power supply failure alongside a broken LeShuttle train, causing significant disruptions as passengers attempted to leave for the New Year.
Travelers reported feeling anxious and worried, not knowing the status of their journeys as delays continued. Getlink, operator of the Channel Tunnel, indicated that repair work was ongoing to resolve the power issues.
Passengers affected by the disruptions have the option to rearrange their journeys without additional charges, or to cancel and receive refunds.
Social media witnessed an influx of images depicting overcrowded stations, highlighting the scale of the disruptions experienced by travelers attempting to take the Eurostar.
