Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, recognized as the world’s oldest person, passed away peacefully in Porto Alegre, Brazil, at the age of 116. Born on June 8, 1908, in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, she embraced a life dedicated to her faith and community as a nun from her early twenties. Inah was known for her deep devotion to God, attributing her remarkable longevity to her faith, often expressing that "he [God] is the secret to life."

Celebrations of her 116th birthday were vibrant, featuring a cake shaped like the stadium of Sport Club Internacional, her beloved football team. Her passion for football was evident in her extensive collection of club memorabilia, including jerseys and pillows adorned with the team's logo. The club expressed its condolences and celebrated her cherished life marked by kindness and loyalty on social media.

Sister Inah's family shared that she enjoyed good health until her later years, where she experienced gradual physical decline but maintained a routine that provided her comfort. She never underwent major surgeries until she had a cataract operation at the age of 106. Although her hearing and vision deteriorated towards the end, her spirit remained unwavering, as described by those close to her.

Her fellow Teresian nun, Sister Terezinha Aragon, reflected on Inah’s good humor and gratitude for life, sharing that she never complained. Sister Inah's journey began in a religious boarding school at the age of 16, before branching out to teach Portuguese and maths in Brazil, always valued for her discipline and sociability. Following her passing, the title of the oldest living person has now shifted to Ethel Caterham, 115, from Surrey, England. Sister Inah's remarkable life and enduring spirit remain an inspiration to many.
