In brief

A bus carrying lorry drivers collided with a stationary freight train at the French entrance to the Channel Tunnel, injuring 19 people, including the driver. Emergency services evacuated two severely injured passengers by helicopter, but all lives were reported safe. Sub‑prefect Agathe Cury confirmed that freight and Eurostar traffic through the tunnel was largely unaffected, with only a brief stop. Eurostar issued a statement that the incident occurred several kilometres away and would not impact scheduled services to and from London. Police and transport officials are investigating the cause of the collision.

A bus has hit a stationary freight train near the French entrance to the Channel Tunnel, injuring the driver and 18 passengers, the French authorities say.

The bus, carrying lorry drivers awaiting the shuttle rail service, struck the train at the loading platform in Coquelles, near Calais.

Two people were severely injured and evacuated by helicopter, though no one's life was in danger, a local official reported.

Sub‑prefect Agathe Cury said freight and Eurostar traffic through the tunnel was not disrupted, aside from a brief stop for the medical evacuation.

Eurostar confirmed the incident was several kilometres away and that all Eurostar services to and from London would run as scheduled.

Photos show the damaged bus beside the train with emergency workers nearby, and riders are all men of various nationalities.

The map of the tunnel location is provided by the BBC.
